Date/Time not working

Any ideas what could be wrong.
Recently I've found that when I turn on my PC that the date/time are wrong. Date is usually the day before and the time is always wrong. It's easy to set the right date/time but is there something I could do to sort it?

The most likely cause is the CMOS battery on the motherboard. Usually a CR2032 button cell. If it's a desktop PC, in most cases it's a 1 minute job to replace. Laptops are more complicated as most require some degree of dismantling - video instructions may be found on YouTube. How do I add a signature?0

Thanks for your replies. It is a desktop PC. Where do I get a CR2032 button cell? PCWorld or is it a specialised part?0

Possibly a supermarket, though Argos, PC World, Currys Dixons etc should have them

Probably the cheapest source will be one of the many of the "pound" shops which sell cards with either about thirty button cells or about six CR2032/CR2016 etc wider and flatter cells on them.0

As above, or anywhere that sells watch batteries. Suggest you remove the existing battery first just to check it is a CR2032. It should be in a plastic holder with a spring clip on one side. Make a note of which way up the battery is then push the clip outwards and the battery should pop up.Thanks for your replies. It is a desktop PC. Where do I get a CR2032 button cell? Just one note, with these batteries you get what you pay for. I have found the Pundland ones do not last as long as, say, the Energiser ones (cheapest in Tescos AFAIK), so it might be worth splashing out a bit more if it is a job you don't want to repeat in 6 months to a year. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Another vote for a trip to the pound shop.
I got 6 on a card and haven't had any issues with them. Just check the "use by" date on them.
They tend to turn over batteries much quicker than the supermarket and thus are more up to date.0 -
I'm not sure it is the CMOS because when mine went, it always returned the date to 1st Jan in the year of manufacture (unless switched back on within a few minutes).
If it is, then Home Bargains sell them also.0 -
do you shutdown the computer and turn off at the wall each night ?
If you do it can knacker the battery ,leave it plugged in / switched on for a few days to see if that cures it
If you need to change the battery
