car Insurance information

Options
originally posted on the consumer rights thread, as advised there, now posting here, hopefully to get some motoring attention/advice

Back in 2010 a car reversed into me, as it was the slightest actual contact and there was no damage we agreed not to involve the insurance company's
however as the car drove off I noticed a hire company sticker on the back of the car, so fearing a possible later claim saga I decided to inform my car insurance company (how I wish I never bothered)

now I informed my insurance company of what happened and I clearly stated I was not making a claim, just informing them should any future problems arise, little did I know the problems would end up being mine

once my insurance was up for renewal, I went for another company (cheaper price etc) however on my proof of no claims etc, they listed the incident I mentioned above, even though no claim by either party was ever made by either party.
now at the time and after a lengthy saga and a number of phone calls/emails. they eventually changed the information from a Non fault claim to state for information only

No I assumed after a lengthy saga this information had been deleted from my file, as it never showed up on my next insurance policy, or the following one

Now I have taken out a new policy with the previous firm, and yes you have guessed my problem, they still have this information listed, I have contacted them and they are refusing point blank to remove the information from my file

is there anything I can do

originally it was listed as a Non fault claim, much to my annoyance as no claim was ever made by either party

after a saga, it was changed to "for information only"

now I assumed it had been deleted/removed, as my next two insurance company's did not list this at all

as I was the innocent party and no claim was ever made I wanted this removed, the actual person who reversed into me, is probably driving round without any information on his file, yet he was the guilty party

hence I (the innocent party) wanted this removed/deleted

any advice would be appreciated, Thanks

I assume you went back to your original insurer because they were cheaper than the company you were then with. If that is the case, what are you worried about? If it is recorded as a no blame incident for info only I would forget about it.
Insurers are not really concerned about who is to blame, just that there is a claim, or a possible claim. It is a no claim discount you receive, not a no blame discount!
Insurers deal in facts, thus they have recorded an incident that could have resulted in a claim as a recordable fact. Move on and forget it.
  • You had an incident and declared it. Its going to be on your file and you need to declare it for 5 years.

It not showing up should have got you phoning them as they could have used that to refuse a payout. Non disclosure.

I want this removed as when I come to renew my Insurance next year I'm going to have all the hassle again with this information on my file showing up

So I (the innocent party in this saga) am being punished, yet the actual person who reversed into me is driving round hassle free

after this happened my next insurer actually took off there file after I explained what happened, and I assume my original insurance company had removed it after this

You cannot have an incident you reported removed! You can't rewrite hustory!

(And it will be on the central database, not just your own insurers)

Just be sure to disclose it when approaching companies for cover, as you have found out they will catch up with you if "forget", aqnd you could find yourself with a voided policy in the event of any claim.
