Does the landlord have to fix the tv aerial

I have recently moved into a student let property and discovered that the wire that runs from the roof aerial appears to have been cut so is no longer connected. It was broken before we moved in.
Does the landlord have a responsibility to fix this? Or do we have to pay to have someone come out and fit another wire?
There is no mention of a tv aerial in the tenancy agreement.

Thanks in advance :)

If there is no mention of t then the landlord doesn't have to deal with it.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

Ask the landlord very nicely and see what s/he says. You may be lucky.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

If they will not and you live in a good reception area buy an aerial and rig it up as high in the loft as you can safely manage.

How many people live in the property?
what rent are you all paying your landlord?
Does the rent include any or all the bills?
Do you have to pay for your own TV licence ?
Did you view the property when the former students were living there?
I would contact the LL and inform him that the TV aerial is not working.
Did you rent through a Letting agent ? if so complain to them as well.
I recently paid £100 for a wall bracket, cable and aerial to be installed in a property by a local TV man

Many landlords would repair this but it's not something they are obligated to provide and maintain.

Probobly does not have to in this situation.

But if you were my tenant and you rang me, I'd fix it. So ask. Preferably the LL rather than the agent if you can.

    Or - you say:
the roof aerial appears to have been cut
which implies a) you've seen the cut and b) the cable is still there. For around 50p each you can buy two coax cable plugs (one 'male' and one 'female'). Put one on each end of the cut cable and then insert (gently now!) the male into the female.

    See here.

    Sorted

    Don't bother with the foreplay.

Great suggestion and worth a try but be aware modern freeview TV's need a good signal. The more breaks and rejoins in a cable degrades that signal. TV engineers have advised me in the past not to have aerial wall sockets and to wire a aerial straight into the TV to avoid this signal loss.

For the sake of a couple of quid for the plugs and a length of coax it is worth a try.

If the picture goes blocky and pixelates then the signal is not strong enough

If it's just been cut and the two ends are still close, no cable needed.

If you lose signal (and assuming landlord does not fix), add a masthead amp like this one. (Yes, best put near the aeriel hence the name 'masthead', but it CAN be added lower down in a more accessible position.)

Sorry - foreplay is essential. If you just push it in without the preliminaries, those watching won't receive satisfaction.

The connectors must first be attached to the cables!
