Hi all!
Driving up to Windermere for the obligatory bank holiday weekend "getaway" - it's a fair drive from London and I'm just wondering whether anyone can recommend spots on the route worth planning a visit for? We should have a few hours spare in our schedule... thinking of things like castles, heritage sites, but any ideas welcome

(oh - intending the obvious M1, M6 route but I'm flexible if it doesn't add too much time to the journey)
