I was just reflecting on being lucky or not and wondered if anyone has been comping for a long time and had no wins? Ever!

I wonder at what point the cut-off comes? I mean, how long do people go with no wins before deciding they can't be bothered to carry on any more?
Similarly, what is the minimum amount of wins that people need in order to spur them to continue? Or, if you won a high-value prize, would that last longer in terms of encouraging you to carry on, than if you won, say, a lipstick in a colour you didn't really like?Because it's fun to have money!

I have only been entering "lots" of competitions (say around 30 a day and I know that's not lots compared to some people on here) for about 4 months now but prior to that in about the past 10 years I always entered about 5-10 a week from newsletters and mailing lists. Sad to say that in that time I've never won a thing!! Unless you count the £25 I once got for filling in a Boots Viewpoint survey. Am hoping against hope that the luck fairy is just saving up all my good luck for a REALLY big win one day!!
I don't see myself giving up though, as the saying goes, you can't win the raffle if you don't buy a ticket. It's all harmless fun and I don't take it that seriously!0 -
Sometimes I think I am unlucky in that I never seem to win 'big' like most people, you know iPads, phones, TVs, holidays etc....
But then I remind myself even a carton of Orange Juice is better than nothing! You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0 -
Sorry forgot to say, I often apply for freebies and samples just so I can have something through the post and it feels like a win.
I got a pedometer a couple of months ago, with no note and I was 95% sure it was a freebie but certainly felt like a win to me!!!You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0 -
Yes I like the freebies too. I was thinking last night all the time spent entering comps for things I could just go out and buy so I can't really want them! I would love to win a holiday though, or even a day out. Maybe one day :0)Started comping February 2012

I win on average twice a week, usually small random things like make-up or event tickets like ideal home show ect. About once a month a win a big one though! I enter quite a lot, at least 100 a day.
I would give up if i've won nothing for 6 weeks.Jan:£500 Cottage,TNA tix,Vodka party.Feb:Starwarstix,Tshirt,Hammerfest,

There is a thread round here somewhere of someone who has gone for over a year I think and not one a sausage (or an oj)!0

I've had two spells, of entering 20-30 comps a day. The first one lasted a couple of months, and I won nothing - actually, I won a pair of headphones, but that was based on submitting a photograph rather than a random draw. I'm in my second spell now, trying to remain determined and not become disheartened. I've been going about a month, at 30 on an average day and 100 or more on days when I'm less busy at work. Nothing yet, though. Trying to take a long view, and make myself do it for a year.
The things that play on my mind are, are the draws really random? If 1,000 people fill in the online form, will all those email addresses physically go into a hat and be drawn, truly at random, or will they just pick the one at the top or bottom of the list? I remember working for a newspaper, and very little care was taken over ensuring everyone had an equal chance of being drawn out.
Secondly, as a man, is there any point in me filling in the entries for draws that are on sites aimed primarily at women, such as Woman's Own, etc. There are far more female-targeted sites than those targeted at men. Will I stand a chance of winning on them?
Anyway, good luck everyone, keep at it!0 -
I've been comping for about a month and had two wins - nothing major but nice to spur me on.
I do also wonder if there is any bias against my entering female targeted comps - I enter them to give to my wife if successful but would I stand a better chance if I said I was her?
I guess it begs the question - has any male comper here won anything directly from an obviously female specific draw?
Thanks to all you competition posters - without you we would have nothing!0 -
I wonder when a competition has multiple modes of entry ie post, email, text how did they select the winner then? It would be good if we has an insider who could spill the beans. I have only won a couple of things. A Loreal goody bag being the biggest. I enter quite a few although it would vary according to how busy I am. To be honest I see it as a hobby and think I am very lucky in life anyway so winning prizes won't make my life better. I would still like to win though saying that ;0)Started comping February 2012
