Which crackpot garage is happy for customers to supply it with the parts it needs to repair a vehicle? Sounds very fishy.
And BTW - a baby isn't a parcel to be passed around by people they don't know. Somebody needs to get a grip..................

My garage lets me buy the parts I need. But then again, the owner is my neighbour. I needed some lamps replacing and he told me it would be cheaper to buy them somewhere else and he'd fit them for me.0 -

I did do this a couple of times with a one-man band when he was up to his ears, the repair was urgent and it was faster for me to do the leg-work but it's not exactly normal.
And it's quite possible for things to be missed, even when not in a rush, my last MOT failed to spot a problem with the rear off-side brake despite my mechanic specifically asking them to check it while it was up on the ramps.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Not going to comment on the relationship aspects but his explanation of the brake problem is accurate.0

Since she's the one worrying about it, would she be prepared to take the car to a garage and pay for a service? Would he let her do that?Mortgage when started: £330,995

Thank you all. I have shown her the responses on this and the motoring forum, and although she's still not happy about it, the baby has now been collected by the ex's friend and gone for contact
.
Unfortunately, he's picked a rotten day for it, as the little one's back teeth are cutting, and she is snotty, whingey, clingy, producing atomic nappies, and generally bad tempered today. But at least my daughter gets a few hours break from all that :T!0 -

A lot of garages, even main dealers.
Most garages get their parts from one or two suppliers and don't shop around they ring up and get a price from their supplier. I needed an electric window motor my garage quoted me £235+VAT for the part. I was able to get the same part on-line for £80 inc VAT and delivery they were happy to fit it.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
