car insurance

hello

my father passed away two weeks ago. now the car insurance was under his name, and had 5 years + no claim bonuses. i was a additional driver onto the policy for over 2 years. how do i go about it, will they transfer no claim bonuses onto my name or will they give me a discount. or will they just cancell it and i have to reapply with my name (which i cant afford).

You will not be able to transfer the Ncd to your name, this is only allowed btw husband and wife. However you may get a discount with the current insurer if you explain what has happened.

You will also find that many insurers will give you a discount as you have been a claim free driver on your late fathers policy. They would require proof of it.

Agree with the above. The no claims belonged to your late father not yourself.

Sorry to hear about your sad news

    I wouldnt be so sure.

I used to be on my dads insurance, but when I went and finally got my own policy they gave me the time I had been on his policy towards ncd of my own.

As everything in insurance, each individual case will differ- the time you have been with the company, claims history will all effect their decision.
