Puppy attacking

Mouthing in play is a completely natural part of a puppy's development, so it isn't 'wrong', he just needs to learn that you don't like it.
Yep I yelp and stand up but he just bites my feet/legs anything. The water spray stops him doing it 9/10 other than when he has his mad 10 minutes in the evening.0 -

I think it's down to the Shepherd side of the breedI agree with the yelping at him, time out - I tried both of these, and they worked for a little while. The thing that really worked best I have to say was one of those Pet Corrector that sends out a jet of air. It didn't frighten him, just stopped him in his tracks because he didnt know what it was.
Then lots of praise as he's stopped the biting... if he bites again another zap, etc. Just don't spray it at him, behind your back is best.
Good luck!
I'm glad you mentioned this, I meant to invest in one and forgot !! My aunt from Essex was visiting last weekend and told me to get one. She has a pit bull ( not 'of type' a full breed... luckily they have managed to keep hold of the dog ( money talks *sigh*) and have a license and have to abide by not letting it out un muzzled etc) anyways that is what they used training her and she is an excellent behaved dog.0 -

I think its a dog trait, to be honest. They all do it at around this age, whatever the breed.
The yelping is important because what he needs to learn is that his teeth are powerful and cause you pain, to stop him being bitey as he grows up. That's what he'd be learning if he were still with his mum and siblings.0 -
That's basically what we are doing, as it the only way to stop him.
I don't think so, he had been feed and we weren't eating at the time.
I think FIrefox meant what type of food ? When ours was a pup she was at her worst half an hour after foodObstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.0 -
I know the phase well, it's called...puppihood! He'll be prone to a short attention span so you might find your training sessions are too long, he may only be able to manage a minute or two at a time at the moment. When he gets in these funny moods I'd just direct him onto toys or give him a time out (remove him from the situation, or remove yourself).
I'm afraid I really don't like spray bottles and the like. Either he'll think it's a game and get more excited, or, if it works, it works by being unpleasant or scary. When you use scary aversive methods, you run the risk of creating more problems. For example, you squirt him with the water just at the same time your OH walks into the room, he could then learn to associate the scary water with the presence of your OH and you've got a bigger problem to deal with than puppy mouthing. I prefer to teach what I do want rather than punish what I don't want, I find dogs learn a lot quicker when they're given an alternative behaviour because you can train that to become the ingrained, automatic behaviour rather than have to go through punishing all the bad behaviours (he bites, so you punish him, so instead he barks, so you have to punish that, so then he chews things up, and you have to punish that, and so on)
The kikopup and pamelamarxsen channels both have a selection of puppy videos

i used to yelp when mine did that, like I was really hurt, then show them where they bit and say "What's that? no!!"
They soon got the message.0 -

Ahh, it doesn't seem to happen at regular times. he is fed raw aswell so no nastly E numbers to make him more hyper than normal. His treats though are not raw treats but they have no additives.0
