Hello,
I'm in absolute turmoil. My husband left a permanent job for a new job which was closer and more money. After six weeks they decided there wasn't enough work for him so they paid him for a weeks notice and told him he could leave there and then. He's now claiming JSA but I'm in turmoil because I'm so afraid what will happen if he doesn't find a job in the next six months.
He's applying for things left right and centre and not even getting interviews, even stuff that's well beneath him as he just wants to work.
I'm a teacher and on my salary i need another 200 a month so we can pay all of our bills and eat. No going out, no nothing. So JSA covers that. What I'm afraid of is if it gets to six months and he hasn't found anything, we are totally screwed because according to them I earn too much, but according to us we need 200 a month to break even. Well I think this is what they'll say. I earn 29240 per annul and work full time.
I'm so so stressed and so is my husband and it's causing problems because I'm so stressed about the bills and I'm getting exhausted from work, then he's not getting anywhere and he is getting frustrated so we are starting to argue and then it makes me upset because I don't want to make things difficult for him as its bad enough for him.
Need some help and advice because I'm really afraid of what we will do, we are in a private rented house and because I'm an ex bankrupt I simply cannot afford to default on any kind of bills. Lucky we have no debts at all but equally we have no savings :-(

Bankrupt June 15th 2009. Early discharge granted March 4th 2010. Nose completely clean ever since. Got a barclays and co op basic account with debit card, own mobile contract, own gas and electric, own landline, own vanquis credit card which is paid off in full each month. Credit files cleaned up and all say satisfied.

Your net earnings (excluding pension contributions) are around £1850 and the contributions based JSA is £307 a month (approx additional 20% into the house keeping costs).
Is there no way you can shave your living expenses down by a tenner a day?
Download the MSE budget planner and work through the site to identify where you can slash living costs - cheaper insurance, telecoms and energy tariffs, ultra thrifty food shopping and recipes, reduced transport costs, moving to a cheaper rental property and so on.
The old style money forum is best for really cheap living - some people on there will spend less than £100 on groceries over a month, for example.
If he loses his JSA that's it - there's no magic replacement benefit. You can check if you are entitled to any council tax discount or housing benefit on the Turn2us online benefit calculator.
Post a SOA on the debt free wanabee board and they'll pick apart your living expenses.
There are relationship boards for the relationship issues.0
