Firstly, we live in Northern Ireland.
My OH tried claiming JSA contribution based after be laid off work.
On phoning today to see how claim was doing she was told she wasn't entitled as not enough NI contributions as she didnt earn enough in last job she didnt pay NI, problem is I earn (apparently) too much so income based isn't an option, we have mortgage bills etc, I'm fairly confident I can cover but things will be tight.
Any other benefits we can apply? Seems to me if you've never worked a day in your life but able to work you can sit back and get your benefits but in our case a couple trying to work and when we need the states assistance - we don't qualify for it.
Any help greatly appreciated!

If you have a low income you can check for other benefits. Eg Council Tax (not sure on Northern Ireland's Council Tax). If you have children check out Tax Credits.
Other than that, no there won't be any help - as she didn't earn enough to contribute any NI into this scheme. If she had earnt enough she'd qualify for £71 for 6 months.0 -

Maybe post a SOA on the Debt Free Wanabee board to see where you can cut your outgoings:

Folks,
Just found P60 and was wanting to know if OH would get JSA.
NI Contributions
EArnings at the Lower earnings Limit (where earnings are equal or exceed the LEL) =5304
Earnings above LEL up to and including Primary Theshold (PT)
= 1920
Earnings above the PT upto and including the Upper ACcrual point
= 1654
Earnings above UAP up to and including Upper earnings limit = 0
Please help as JSA say she's not entitled due to not enough NI Contributions0 -
in which years(recent)has she paid NI?0

Those figures were p60 April 2012, the 2011, 2010 P60 should be roughly same as she was paid exactly the same in those years0
