Help with "related" meter

Trying to move to Eon before the price hikes after taking heed of Sir Martin MSE but....
Our current supplier is Scottish Power of both gas and electricity and we wish to move to Eon. Eon are happy to supply our gas but won't supply our electricity due to having a "related" meter with 2 MPAN's.
We are not using "smartcard" meters, we pay monthly.
The guy at Eon said that our current supplier has to change our meter but by the time that all happens the Eon deal will be well and truly over(and I bet Scottish Power charge us too).
Is there anything that can be done?
I've read previous posts regarding this but they don't seem to get resolved.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks

You mean other than contacting your existing supplier to request a change of meter? No.

Why are you trying to change supplier anyway.
As you say you've read the other threads on the subject, you will be aware of the advice that those who attempt to switch in your situation invariably end up in tears.
  • We're trying to switch to save about £700 quid a year, I didn't realise that companies were still allowed a monopoly as it's supposed to be a free market. Poor old deluded me.

So am I to take it that you haven't read the other posts/threads on this subject, despite your post to the contrary?

What type of meter do you have? Some suppliers will take these on.

Related metering doesn't mean its complex, it could just mean you have a standard rate meter plus a seperate off peak meter. These are quite common and are no issue to bill against. They can also be replaced by a modern E7 meter if the daytime heating bursts aren't needed.

If you have a complex dual MPAN meter, it can be harder but not impossible. It does mean contacting suppliers to enquire and possibly speak to a manager.

Every supplier can switch you, its part of their licence to be able to do this. The problem is that suppliers have taken advantage of Ofgem's lack of control by refusing business.

Its wrong and surely a monopoly issue but Ofgem won't do anything until its raised in the media. They have a consumer affairs team that you could ask about this. Do you want the link?

Thanks for the response, it IS one of the "complex dual MPAN" type meters, it has dual sources, one for the hot water (timed for night time) and the other for everything else.

I have contacted both Ofgem (thanks for the heads up) and through their site, Consumer Focus (Scotland) and am now awaiting a reply from both

    Thanks for the help

Let us know what they say.

This issue is a bit of of dead end for advice at the moment with suppliers refusing peoples business and knowingly disadvantaging them with meters that are worse. Its not always worse but I think customers are not told they need to ensure that E7 would be sufficient plus you have to do some rewiring first.

Its interesting that Standard Licence Condition (SLC) 25A ended in July. In here it stated that a supplier must not discriminate between groups of customers with a material effect.
