Electricity/Boiler query - Help Needed

Afternoon all

I have a query that I hope someone could help me with please.

We rent a relatively new build flat (2005) and only have to pay electricity bills. Our supplier is EDF and we have an elec meter which supplies 4 readings (Day, Night, Evening/Weekend and Off-peak – Is this Economy 7?). In December 2010 the boiler packed up and was replaced. Since then our Off-Peak meter reading has not changed so therefore we are paying the more expensive rates.

Readings from 25 May – 12 Aug:
Day – 359kWh
EWE – 264kWh
Night – 301kWh
Warmwise Heating (Used to be Off-Peak) – 0kWh

I have spoken with my letting agent and they spoke with the boiler installation company who said ‘You now need Economy 10 which will provide you with the lower rates for that particular boiler. Scottish & Southern Elec should be able to provide the best deals for you.’

Does this sound feasible? Is it definitely Economy 10 we need? Does nothing need to be changed on the boiler for this Off-Peak tariff to switch back on?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
BF

Edit - Should also say we have a timer for when the hot water starts heating which is set for 3 hours from about 2am-5am.

  • It sounds like you are on e10, or a similar tarrif, and the boiler has been miswired somehow.
Did you change anything about your electricity at the time?

As above, no it's not E7. Your latest bill/statement should indicate what your current tariff is.

There are different types of E10, (Warmwise being one suppliers version) and you can't really switch between them. Not all suppliers offer E10, and those that do may not accept new applicants, and where they do, this may be region specific.

If you are not currently on E10 supplied by SSE, I suggest you get back onto the landlord/agent. If you are currently supplied by SSE, but not on E10 (although you do have a multi-rate meter) it may be a simple case of switching tariffs (if they permit it), but it could be the current system is not correctly installed, hence why the landlord/agent should still be your first point of call.
