Joint Account for Monthly Food Shop - Pre-paid or standard account?

Hi all,
My partner and I are looking to set up some form of account to deposit a monthly sum each into to cover food shopping. We do bits each at the moment but sorting who has paid what and balancing individual spend across the month is turning into something of a logistical nightmare currently.
Our question is does anyone have an arrangement to deal with this scenario currently and what recommendations do people have?
We've thought about a pre-paid account as opposed to a traditional joint bank account but we're not sure about them.

You might consider an on-line savings joint account with the Yorkshire - atm card is available so the person doing the shopping can get the cash.
