Im sure sainsburys dont offer a text option like Tesco do, the driver does have a contact number for all his drops though to let you know if hes late or if he could come by earlier than planned if for example hes close by.
  • That was already said in Tip 11

    I added it after :-)

No. Drivers phones are barred from texting. Some rare drivers who are deaf are given phones that can text you.
Sainsburys do text reminders the day before, but they don't do a ETA on delivery on the day.

Drivers are actually told they must deliver in the time slot, not allowed to deliver early. So really, they shouldn't be coming to you early. I know it doesn't make sense, but that what they are told.
  • Note to drivers following a Supermarket Delivery Van. If he slows down a lot but still moving, don't get annoyed, he is trying to find a customer. You just wait a few seconds and let him/her find them. Getting annoyed, beeping horns etc will not make his job quicker and trying to get his attention so you can overtake will most likely result in a load of brake lights very suddenly.

If you spot your delivery going by slowly and not stopped at yours, it might be worth popping out to the road and waving it down in case he cannot find you.

Oh didnt know about the text reminder day before, i would have known that if i gave them my number to use lol.

It does happen that a delivery can be made early whether the store contacts the customer or the driver calls the customer to say can he deliver it earlier. I work in online dept so ive seen the TL call customers and ask if ok it its delivered early.

Well, saying that the handsets the drvers have might not allow early deliveries so what ive said ^^ might be irrelevant.

Drivers can deliver early if they want to - just not SUPPOSED to. :-) Their handsets actually allows them to deliver to whatever customer they want, don't have to do it in order. We are told that the customer picked that slot for a reason (we say they most likely couldn't get an earlier slot hehe) so delivery should be for then.

I have delivered to the last two customers before (several hours early) before doing the rest as I was covering for a sick driver and I needed to be home.
  • Update for those asking about Christmas slots...

If you use Tesco Delivery Saver, where you pay a lump sum delivery charge upfront for 3/6 months then don't pay delivery on any order over £40 you will also get advanced access to Christmas slots.

Any customers signed up to Delivery Saver before the 4th November will be allowed priority access.
  • Tesco will be releasing christmas delivery slots for priority customers on Monday 5th November and for non priority customers on 28th November onwards
  • the advanced christmas slots was one of the reasons i signed up to delivery saver at tesco. i always get everything i can in advance and get a slot 2 days before christmas in case something on my shop i need doesnt come..i never go in store with 3 kids in the school hols at christmas..its evil in there
