New condensing boiler

Hello, all well it's happened my old boiler has finally kicked the bucket and I need a new one just a little bit of advice please!!

Ok I'm considering a Worcester boiler or a valiant so I'm about to get some quotes I know it can be expensive, however I have seen some 28kw boilers such as valiant and or Worcester for 799-899 pounds, I was wondering if I could just buy the boiler and get a fitter corgi registered to quote me for fitting it? Are the likely to do this?? I'm sure it would cost me more if I let them get the boiler for me?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Also I want the electric shower taken out seeing I'm getting a new boiler and a new one plumbed in to run off new gas boiler

The problem comes when it does not work straight after fitting or it breaks down. Is it the fitters problem or the boiler suppliers problem?

If they are the same person then there is no doubt.
  • Ahh ok I see your reasoning, but would it not be more expensive alot more expensive letting the fitter but it as he would overcharge for the boiler? I mean if he guarantees his work would he not assume liability?
  • For example of he purchased it and it stopped working in me, he would come round and fix it, so i mean if it stops working and I purchased it I assume the boilers guarantee would kick in? I mean is a fitter ok with giving quotes to fit a new boiler that I purchased? Or don't they do that?

Just get some quotes from a few RGI's for fitting only and fitting and supplying. You may be surprised and the decision made for you.

The other day a mechanic wanted £160 for a new ABS sensor but I got an OEM one for £42 off eBay so I supplied the part, if the mechanic had supplied the part for £60 I would have gone with him so as to put all the ball in his court if the part did not work.
  • yes we will give you a fit only price but then everything else is down to you if it goes wrong or isn't suitable for the job, if you are going to get the boiler & rad + valves then leave the installer to supply fittings, pipe etc he isn't gonna wait around while you nip to b&q for a 15mm elbow cause you didn't buy enough, also the thing to think about is because he isn't making any money on the boiler the fitting price will prob go up, i had one boiler that i supplied that leaked as soon as i filled it up, i had to get the rep to drive 50 miles to deliever me a replacement the same day as the merchant didn't have one locally, if that happened to you you could be without a boiler for weeks is that worth saving the 15-20% mark up from an installer, only you can decide.

BTW it hasn't been Corgi for 4 yrs it's Gas Safe now.

    My recommendation is below.

I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

While possible to get an 'install only' price, it won't be worthwhile, and can easily lead to other problems which will cost you more.

It wouldn't be just buying the boiler either -it will obviously need a flue (and there are various types depending on where the boiler will be installed), plus inevitably some pipes and other fittings will be needed. There are also the various chemicals to clean the system and corrosion inhibitor etc.
  • Wow guys thanks a lot, you have all been very helpful and given me lot to think about, thanks for all the useful information and tips

It is much appreciated, I will keep you updated with the quotes if it is useful for you

    Many thanks

We just got our boiler replaced for a new condensing Vaillant ecotec plus 824.

I did get some quotes off three companys by putting my details into http://www.boilerguide.co.uk/ it gave us a good idea of the price.

There is a long list of other things you would need to do the instillation of the new boiler. I doubt it would be worth the effort of sourcing a boiler and everything else needed. As mentioned above the plumbers would probably just up their install costs.

I would 2nd what has been said above, you are opening the situation to complications if you go supply and only pay the gas guy for the fitting.

As said again, check both routes, you may be suprised and not always for the same reason.

PS have "obtained" many boilers via a connection at a major manufacturer, all have been fitted only, and no issues, but there is always the situ when a problem does arrive, so a few quid to package the whole thing may not be too bad an idea;););)

No advice on boiler brand, gets me into trouble:D
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Appreciated very much thanks for all your input I'm overwhelmed by your helpfulness, a big thanks to all of you
