Free photo watermarker

I'm looking for a free watermarking application for photos.
I've spent a few hours trying out GIMP plugins but they've all been rubbish so far!
Are there any known, decent programs? Ideally it will take a directory, batch add a watermark image and save all the images to another specified directory.
