Some drove into the back of my 05 Mondeo.
Only damage was the bumper and the bumper iron behind it.
Bill was over £1000 and I never had a hire car.
Just sent the 3rd party Insurance Co three quotes including one from my preferred bodyshop.
A new bumper for a modern car can easily cost £500. And that is without any metalwork damage.
My wife had a claim when she first bought her Clio I am sure she was with Admiral then. But can't be sure.
They didn't do anything to the car unless it was strictly needed.
Panels repaired instead of replaced, panels with damaged paintwork near the edge of a panel were painted locally and blended in.
They used to blend in then relaquer the entire panel.
I think techniques have improved and these water based paints may be easier to work with.
I don't think you can blame them as you didn't refuse the hire car, they can only go on what you have told them after all.
And unless you are a body repair specialist or claims assessor/loss adjuster you probably aren't fully aware of the true cost of repairing a vehicle.0 -
Lol, just seen it is a thread from the dead!0

Since you're here, londonTiger, how did the claim go?
By the time I realised that I was being taken advantage of by the claims company. I head already got a £50 damage assessement which if I pulled out off - I would have to fork out of my own pocket. So I just went ahead with it.
Wasn't too please with the result. The paint didn't match properly. They didn't blend the panel pant in, they just painted the panel seperately from the car and put it on it seems. Colour difference noticable when you scrutinise it - but not so much if you weren't paying attention.
car here:
O/S front quarter, bumper & moulding strip was damaged in accident.
Bumper was fixed OK, wasn't happy with the poor colour matching of the quarter panel.
Also the bumper moulding strip wasn't replaced for new. They just done a cheap spray job. on the rubber moulding. When I machine polishing the whole car, I didn't tape the the rubber mouldings, the rest of the mouldings around the car were fine, but when I took the polisher over the repaired area the paint on the moulding came right off.
I didn't bother with it, I plan on colour coding the black rubber trim around the car, so it's all going to get spray painted.0 -
and being Albany Assistance who make their money from the very high credit hire charges I expect the car was not repaired for upwards of six weeks0

I didn't take a hire car (changed my mind last minute) because the damage waiver, fuel surcharge would have cost me £40. I told them I'd be willing to take a hire car if they threw in the full damage waiver for free and removed the fuel surcharg - but they didn't.
When I called to cancel the hire car the guy was a bit !!!!ed off, he said "well why didn't you say that before you came to us".
Like they gave me much of a choice, they sold their services to me assuming I would take the hire car and didn't even ask or tell me if I had a choice.
Maybe it was a blessing in disguise because my car was fixed in 7 days - they didn't want to rack up any hire fees. Or maybe not - maybe they did shortcuts with my repair.0 -

Oddly enough the same repair would have taken at least six weeks if you were in one of their hire cars @ £45 a day.
If you had told them at the start they would not have offered to just repair the car as their income for just a repair would just be circa 5% of the repair cost. For which they then have the hassle of recovering the 5%.
They would prefer to have to claim back the circa £1800 for six weeks car hire0
