Second-hand white goods - worth it?

Hi - we're moving into our house next month and will inherit a very tired un-integrated kitchen with no white goods, except for a range cooker. We can't afford to get the kitchen redone for 1-2 years so will need to purchase a fridge, a freezer and a dishwasher (all under the counter) for short term use.
I was planning to go into a local repairers, find some quality second hand brands and neogiate a job lot price for the 3 appliances.
Is is a good idea to buy refurbished white goods for this type of purpose? And if so, what brands are good and what should I look out when buying for to avoid breakdowns?
Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's a problem. When Imoved intomyhouse I had a second hand WM and it lasted for years. A decent quality second had one may well outlast a very cheap new one.
Fridges tend to last for ages any way. There is very little to go wrong with them.
I bought a fridge for a landlord last week from a shop that sells refurbished white goods. It was a hotpoint and came with a 3 month warranty and cost £59. Even if it lasts three years, it's hardly a cost worth worrying about.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

I think this article that I wrote a while back explains second hand appliances pretty well.
There are bargains to be had of course, but lemons in equal and quite likely greater number.

My family have usually used second-hand washing-machines, fridges, dish-washers etc. Not had many problems, and for the prices they usually go for, even they don't last that long they can still be a bargain.
This house came with them as the previous owner died and I don't give them a second thought.Solar install June 2022, Bath

When we first moved into our home 20 years ago, all of the appliances were 2nd hand, and over the years we replaced them with new when we could afford it.
Having said that, those appliances seemed to be made to a far higher standard than their equivalents today, particularly the washing machine and oven.
We are only just on our third television, the first two CRT's lasting ten years a piece.
It seems that buying new and buying second hand are now very much a lottery.
