Joint claim JSA

Hi!
My partner is making a new joint claim on jobseekers. I will be working full time hours, and he is not working at all.

I understand for a joint claim the job centre will need information from me, income savings etc.

But will I have to attend or sign on at the jobcentre with my partner. Like for the joint claim to go ahead do I need to go job centre at all?

Thanx, even though I know this might sound like a simple question.

  • Are you working full time, is that 24 hours or more? If so you wouldn't be eligible to make a claim with your partner for Income Based JSA. He could make a claim for JSA contributions in his own right, as long as he has paid enough contributions for the relevant tax years.
  • You say joint claim... but if you are working full-time hours (eg over 24 hours) you cannot qualify for joint income-based JSA.

If your OH has paid the relevant NI contributions then he could claim a single person's conts-based JSA.

Ok, does my partner still need to give any of my income details?

No he doesn't and if eligible will get six months contribution based JSA.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

  • If the Job Centre does't know about your circumstances, they do not know whether they will be awarding you income based JSA or just looking at an award of contribution based JSA to your husband.
