UVPC French doors problem

We installed some uPVC french doors today. We have tried as much as we can to level/adjust them.

The problem is the door (especially at the bottom). When you close it, the doors shake. The frame is secure.

They have one handle and the left door catches the slave door and they lock but to do this the doors shake. Never had french doors before. Is this how they are?

No, it's not how they are. They should open and close properly, just like any other door.

Probably the glass is not spaced/packed correctly, causing the door to distort.

The frame is level - how we can rectify this? Any ideas please?
  • Ok, if there are only handles on the lead door, there should be finger bolts, on the inside of the slave door, top and bottom that will lock this independently. These are adjustable to pull the slave door in against the gasket. When the lead door then closes, it should be firmer. Remember all of the locks and catches can be adjusted to pull the doors in to the required level. There are different sorts of locking systems, so if you are still struggling, post a picture of both doors and I will tell you how to do it.

Toe & heel - see this video:

  • Thanks for that

The top and bottom latches on the slave door are not holding the door. When the door is being closed by the lead door it doesnt properly close the doors until they are locked. Until locked the bottom of the slave door is sticking out a bit.

The doors shake when you close. These are the doors

See below photo of the lock catch which isnt catching despite as many adjustments as we can make. Even when only the slave door is in closed you can shake the bottom and its shakes.20120924_193026_zps9ec37505.jpg

It seems to us that the plate at the bottom (silver plate which the doors are meant to be held in by) is too far towards the side of the cill - the outside of my house)

Could we move this in? This was pre installed by the manufacturer
  • Can the plate be turned 180 degrees out? Or is there a chance that the top is fitted to the bottom, and the bottom is to the top?

Did it open and close okay before you fitted it?

Can the finger bolts not be adjust outwards, therefore pulling the door in closer?
  • We never fitted the plates - they arrived factory fitted

The finger bolts are not that good - the bottom one is in the photo.
  • Did you find the solution?
  • Unfortunately no solution.

Husband says lock catch on slave door is faulty - in touch with manufacturer about this. They want to send someone round to do an inspection

The door is square/plumb and level
