The estate agent said this sale is on hold for one week (presumably an interested party have asked for time? to survery it perhaps?)

Its listed B... so Im going to find out what 'B' means.

The estate agent says theres no way the grounds will ever be for sale!

Guess I'll keep looking. Ive been looking for months now. I just need to find a dump that i can do up. No point in me paying top dollar for a place thats had thousands spent on it... thousands i could have otherwise saved by doing myself.

I assume you're either in Scotland or N Ireland, if so then Grade B is the equivalent of the English Grade II* listing - see the attached link for details.

I have a couple of Grade IIs in my portfolio. It's unlikely you'll be able to change external appearance, or internal structure, but beyond that, you can certainly add all the mod cons you like.

Just because it's listed doesn't mean you have to tiptoe to an outhouse in the middle of the night - designer kitchens and en-suite wetrooms really do such wonderful buildings justice.

Cant remember if I posted the latest but the estate agent said its unlikely the council will ever sell the land. So that means theyve asked already.

The agents also said the sale has been put on hold (possibly had an offer subject to survey?) so we cannot view it unless they call us back.

    I guess i'll keep looking.

My parents have said they would rather they help me financially to get something with decent.. rather than just buying a bog standard flat in town.

B listed is the equivalent of Grade II* and (in Scotland anyway) usually means you can change the interior but not the exterior, broadly. If it's Scotland you're in, you can check the listing and find the date it was listed here:

There are some funny rules regarding church buildings and Listed Buildings Consent - basically until pretty recently, churches were exempt from a lot of the rules that covered normal listed buildings, which may be why that church has what look like modern windows and appears to have been rendered. Which is the 13th C bit, the smaller building at the front?

As long as you don't have any of the restive ones, esp. any who like rattling chains and howling. :D
