  • the thought of new car sounds tempting, but theres nothing wrong with your car, so this to me would be a tempting impulse buy by a singing and dancing you (dont) benefit gig that the dealer has spouted you.

you would still have to service it (dealer prices are expensive) and if not dealer serviced still have to have a dealer parts to honour any warranty it has left.

then your looking at timing belt and water pump major service wich costs more than the basic outlay of a basic service.

then you have to considder what happens during that time of the agreement that the car get written off? yes you get pay out, but effectively youd ise the pay out to pay off the finance deal and left without a car and no cash to replace it.
  • Toyotas are well screwed together and 9 years old should not be 'on it's last legs'.
I have a 14 year old 180,000 mile car that isn't on it's last legs, and it's even French!

Ok - thanks for the opinions. I guess it comes from being on Motability for all my driving life before now - I've never run a car older than 3 years and it just makes me "nervous". I guess I have no comparison to make. Also, as I am disabled still - though not on DLA - the idea of breaking down or being left without a car panics me much.

The dealer is offering me now a 59 plate, 16k miles, special Blue edition, to be honest the car I wanted ever since I saw one, AC, Bluetooth and just damn cute as anything. I think that is my biggest problem :rotfl:

I can part-ex in my current car at £3k (a good price for her) and finance the remaining £3k + £300 for an extra years warranty and parking sensors, which I need cos of my condition.

It works out at £117 a month for 3 years, nothing to pay at the end.

(Dunno if I mentioned this earlier but I have no debt other than my student loan and I try to save £300 a month, just started, and will still do so in addition to car payments)

    .

No timing belts on Aygo engines. Water pump is a quick and easy job as a result.
  • Well OP, so far no one has suggested you change, and i suspect you want someone to tell you its the right thing to do so you can get that slightly posher newer model...the only one telling you to do this is the sales bod shark.

Those sales people that obviously keep hounding you....once they have your dosh they'll crawl back into the woodwork till their sixth sense tells them you have a few quid going begging again.....bit like politicians and the gradually higher pressure pre election caring/apologising/grovelling/lying...once they have your vote, whoosh....
  • Ok - so I've decided not to do it.

I might spend a little to get a couple of scratches touched up on mine and give it a good valet. Perhaps I can find someone who will give it a once over before winter - antifreeze, check tyres grip and inflation etc - as these are things I can't do myself, so I'll feel a bit more confident with it.

    Good idea.
Find a garage you can trust and build up a relationship, I've used the same garage for 11 years now and they always find me a gap if I have any problems.

I've just had a new car, my old focus had 213,000 on the clock and it was a sad day to see it go but all good things must come to and end some day.
Yours will last just as long if you look after it.

Get it serviced every 12-15,000 miles, and check those tyres regularly.
