Not an option as they were eligible for the government Child Trust Fund and so cannot open a Junior Cash ISA.
I believe they may already have child trust funds but do not want to transfer the matured funds into them as apart from them being subject to the vagaries of the stock market the funds would then be inaccessible until my grand children reach the age of 18.0 -
seaurchin, I haven't researched children's savings accounts, but I noticed there are a few Regular Savers for kids - - check out forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=608697&page=48. May be that's an alternative to Halifax, and may be you can move the existing funds.
To get a rate higher than the Halifax are offering would also mean that I would have to transfer my current account, something that I am not prepared to do.0
