Extension for washing machine

Had a guy out to fix washing machine and Mrs was at home when he came.

From a jumbled message he is saying the water and electcity pipes are too short for him to pull it out, fix and then return it.

Says we need longer water pipes and an electric extension cable but a thicker one suitable for a washing machine, After looking on the web seems extension cables not favourable for washing machines but any idea where i can buy such a thing (if i go down this route)?

  • sounds to me like he couldn't be bothered, the hoses may need to be disconnected from the valves & the electric un-plugged before you can get the machine fully out but this is par for the course in thousands of kitchens.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

This is true, If the hoses and electric were too short, then how were they connected before the W/M was slid back into position !

see it was done whilst we where having a new kitchen fitted so could have done it before the worktops where added. Anyone any ideas on the electric question?

The problem with extension cables is plenty of them are only rated to 10A or sometimes even less. Appliances such as washing machines require the full 13A.
Poor quality ones can overheat at the plug or socket ends.

As for the original problem - as both the electricity and the water will have to be disconnected from the machine before any work can be done on it, the fact the wires / hoses are short won't make any difference at all.
  • Sounds to me like he can't be bothered. I use eBay for most things and have got washing hoses there before. Any plumber should be able to get theese very easily. Some extension cables are now 10amp which seems a little daft, but you should be able to get one rated at 13amps quite easily from a shop or supermarket.
