Are the Jobcentre out of order?

As the store isn't opening until November, some of those successful in this initial round of interviews may no longer be available at the time it is really getting ready to open. There are therefore likely to be more opportunities, especially for someone who does have a track record in retail.0

Good advice in theory, but if this a big opening, chances are that key staff could be asked to go i for training, setting up the store prior to opening. This is especially true if it is one of the big high street names known for cheap fashionable clothes, the last thing they want is a lot of staff not knowing what they are doing on the busiest day they will ever have. The successful applicants are just as likely to be called in for training next week.0 -

with 2 kids in tow having already paid money for a planned day out on the same day?
Luckily she has a job and isn't claiming JSA, but she doesn't drive and I do but can't drive too much as I end up in significant pain.
It took us nearly 3 hours to drive 90 miles as I kept needing to stop.
So whilst 90miles may be nothing to some people, it's quite a lot to others.
Anyway, it's all a mute point now, she'll just have to continue applying for what she can.
I take it that the place you are staying at is too remote for trains? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I believe the rules are that you have to be available for an interview at 48 hours notice, and to start a job with one week's notice. If they gave less than 48 hours notice, their fault.
Is it really worth coming off holiday, for the minute chance of a job? My experience in situations where JCP are involved in the recruitment process is that they interview loads of people for only a handful of positions. Seems to be like the Work programme where they do all they can to milk money from wherever it spouts.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0 -

Depends on how much someone 'wants a job'.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
My point that where the Job Centre is involved in recruitment, an offer of an interview means very little, still stands. Last time I went to such an event there was all the obvious Job Centre no-hopers there who couldn't be bothered to dress for the occasion, and were clearly only there to make sure they got their benefits. I was one of only two who had gone to the effort to wear a suit.Sambucus_Nigra wrote: »Depends on how much someone 'wants a job'.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0 -
It's all about priorities...The Jobcentre phoned my wife at 4.45pm on Tuesday asking if she could attend an interview the following day.
Their priority was sticking to their interview schedule.with 2 kids in tow having already paid money for a planned day out on the same day?

And your wife's priorities were meeting her family commitments.
No-one was 'out of order', there were just conflicting priorities. Put it down to experience and move on.0 -
Complain to the department store & Jobcentre. The Jobcentre phoned my wife at 4.45pm on Tuesday asking if she could attend an interview the following day.
My Wife explained we were on holiday and couldn't make the appointment, but would be available any day the following week.
the Jobcentre adviser said it was too late and that my wifes application would no longer be considered.
The reason they phoned at short notice is they are incompetent.

As a side note. Did you know that you are supposed to inform the Job Centre when you go on holiday? You need to fill in a form called a ES674 and you are allowed up to 2 weeks in a 12 month period. You are also only allowed to holiday in the UK whilst claiming JSA, or they won't pay you for the period where you are abroad.0
