Hi Peeps
Hope someone can offer some friendly techie advice please.
I've got a Hard disc recorder to tape stuff off the telly/radio (both via Freeview) with....and recorded programmes are also saved to a connected external hard drive device.
I've done the honourable thing, safely unplugged it from the hard disc recorder, plugged it into my laptop , where it is recognised in the bottom tool bar.
I then go into Computer to try and find it...it does say
"Devices with removable storage" ..... clicks on it and
nothing happens.
Where is it hiding ?
I'm clutching at straws but could it be that the programmes I've recorded are not recognised by the laptop ????
I can't get too technical cos it's above my station....lol...but are the tv/radio progs recorded in different files that the computer doesn't recognise ???
Anyone out there can point me in the right direction please ?
Thanking you in advance.
Cheers all

Without actually investingating, I believe these are formatted as nfs, or another linux format rather than dos or ntfs.
best bet would be google and search for how to replace your type with a larger hard disk0 -
My external hard drive that I connect to a Humax box is in EXT format. There are tools available to read EXT formatted drives in Windows if this is the format being used on your hard drive, but your files may well be encrypted anyway to stop copying. If you manage to locate the files they'll probably be TS files, (i.e with a .ts extension at the end of the file name) which can be played with something like VLC Player, but if they're encrypted you'll be wasting your time. You could always hook up a video capture device from the scart socket on the box to your PC if you need to keep an encrypted video, but you'll be recording the video and audio signal from the box rather than the file itself.0

Sony uses an XFS file system and, I believe, the .m2ts file extension for its files. Probably the easiest way to access the XFS formatted disk would be to download a live CD of Linux such as Ubuntu to 'mount' the disk. You can find out more about the .m2ts file extension here, it appears to be supported by a range of software in its unencrypted form. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.m2ts.0
