Apna/not apna currys

I've heard recently if you walk into a Indian restaurant and order food, the type of food you get depends on your ethnicity. Apparently if you are white British you get food in a more western way. If you are Asian you get it in the apna style which is conpleyelu different.
I've done a few tests and this appears right. Does anyone know why this is? I am surprised this is not better known as the apna style is a lot better!
