Weddings abroad

Hi G.i.G,
I'm another Lindian bride who can also recommend Lindos Weddings. Here is my thread.
The main choice of chapel in Lindos is St Pauls, but there are others that are smaller, more intimate.
Another choice, if you like Greece, is Kefalos, Kos which has a little island with a chapel on it that can only be reached by boat and looks very romantic.
Incidentally, the chapel is only ever a backdrop - you can't get married in one unless you are Greek Orthodox, and the ceremonies are civil and short (about 20 mins).
Cyprus is also another choice for beach weddings. My husbands niece got married at Kefalos Beach Hotel, Paphos which caters for weddings of all sizes and has it's own chapel.
£8000 should go a long way for a Greek wedding!
Enjoy replanning.

Thank you jo. I've not been to Greece for a long time and definitely don't want to rule it out.
I will check out your thread, it's nice it hear a couple of recommendations for the same place.
I got married in Barbados hun, and it was amazing, the weather was beautiful and everyone being toegther before and after the wedding made the two families even closer. I have a fantastic florist if your interested who created my ideal flowers for the day, artificial of course, and packed them all ready to take with me. I couldn't have wished for better, I say go for it!
Thank you dizzyblnd. I would love Barbados but looking at the prices, I don't think I could get it in budget. Would be lovely though as the Caribbean islands hold a lot of memories for me and the OH. Will check out holidays first though and then see if I can work a wedding in.
Thanks everyone.

We used a Thomas Cook wedding package to Paphos, Cyprus, 5 years ago. Excellent value, great organisation, had a wonderful wedding. Quiet and unassuming, just what we wanted!Bossymoo

Hi,
Sorry been a little busy since we got back. We have just returned from Lindos after getting married:j It was the most amazing day ever & the best wedding we have ever been to :rotfl: We used Lindos Weddings www.lindosweddings.com & they were amazing, everything had been super organised & the whole day flowed seamlessly:D I'd highly reccommend it, we had 13 guests with us so it was the perfect number for us, I guess we did upset some people along the way who could not understand why we wanted to get married abroad bu at the end of the day it's what we wanted & the majority of people understand that. The people who came really wanted to be there & had a great time at the wedding & also a great holiday. People stayed where they liked we said it's your holiday & we did not force people to stay in certain places so people could find a holiday that suited their budget & thats why it worked. My big piece of advise would be not to book your wedding with any of the tour operators, they are just that NOT wedding planners, i've spoken to so many people who have had problems with them it's just not worth it. So get yourself a good wedding planner & just book the holiday with the tour operators.
Hope you find somewhere you love & it all goes well.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

Go to Thailand, I recently attended a wedding in Koh-phangan and it was so beautiful. It's such a cheap place to get married. I think the wedding cost less the £2000 and it was the best wedding I've ever been to.0

Just got back from my sons wedding in paphos, which was for 47 and cost just under 8 k. It was a nice hotel, The Amathus, but beware they made you turn the music off at midnight because of guests despite guarenteeing that would not happen before the wedding was booked.
None of the guests stayed there as it was too expensive but there were cheaper places to stay close by.
Also we saw wedding at the Ellyssium and the Venus Beach hotel whilst there and they were amazing.
MY daughter in law booked everything through the hotel wedding planner which was cheaper than a company as it was included in the cost of the wedding suite.
Downsides , the registrar was very busy and rushed through everything, she turned up dressed like she was going clubbing and was not there for more than 15 minutes including the ceremony and the signing of the paper work.
There was a lot of family memebers who could not afford to attend including grandparents who were very upset and it has caused hugh arguments in the family. Especially after some members said they could not afford to attend who the bride and groom said they really wanted there. none of my sons siblings were present in fact we were the only ones from the grooms family there all the rest were from the brides side.
So be prepared unless the wedding is going to be very small how you cope with the fall out there could be.
Enjoy your planning x0 -

Ours did too! It was annoying at the time but not really that important in the bigger scheme. After all, your wedding is THE most important thing on the planet - TO YOU! To them it's another wedding; and bloody tourists too!
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0 -
Thank you everyone.
I am going to take a long look at Lindos weddings, sounds ideal. I have spoken to the other half and we have agreed on a 2014 wedding to give guests enough time to save. We just need to choose where to go!
I think getting away for our wedding will really suit us as I won't have th same feelings as planning our wedding last time. I am starting to feel a lot happier about the whole thing and not just dread at the thought.

Fawny, do you mind me asking what your budget for your wedding was?0 -
Hiya,
I'd say not including the cost of the holiday - which was £800 for 2 weeks self catering in our normal place in Pefkos, we did it for 5K. Again this does not include my dress, rings or the mens suits but everything else.
Wedding planners fees, legal fees, music at the chapel, bm dress, flowers, beach bar drinks & nibbles, champagne boat crusie, reception - welcome drink, champagne, 3 course meal, a bottle of wine between 2 people & water & a few other drinks. Decorations & favours, saxaphonist at reception for an hour, hair for me & bm, transport & the photographer.
We had a very expensive reception venue, the Melenos as it's what we wanted but there are loads of places to choose from. Staying in Europe is good for people to be able to join you & Lindos & Pefkos are lovely. If you fancy Lindos then you won't go wrong with Lindos Weddings Karen & the team are amazing & will do everything.
All the best.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.

We got married in Cuba last year - and I can highly recommend it. I booked the holiday directly with the tour operator and I booked the wedding package directly with the hotel - cutting out the middleman - and saving about £500 in the process.
We had a fantastic day - and the wedding co-ordinator certainly pulled out all the stops. It was the most stress-free day imaginable - and truly memorable.
Congratulations and good luck in your search.xxSealed Pot Challenge No. 2860
