I've noticed the article about grants from "Warm Front" to insulate homes in the latest email from Martin :money: . I'd like to point out that insulation grants are also avaiable from most of the Gas & Electricity suppliers. These alternative grants are often quicker and less problematic than Warm Front. Plus, you have to receive benefits to qualify for a Warm Front grant.
To get free and impartial advice on the grants and local installers you should call your local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (EEAC - there are around 50 of them funded by Energy Saving Trust in the UK) on 0800 512 012. If you call this number from a landline, you will be diverted to your local centre. You can get energy efficiency and grant advice from one of the many Energy Advisors, like me in Dorset. Most of these centres will also provide renewable energy advice and the grants avaiable for them.
Grants differ in each area. Martin's email :money: mentioned British Gas grants in London, which is one of hundreds of grants. So I urge you to contact your local EEAC for impartial advice. Your local EEAC will also tell you about local projects like ours in Bournemouth and Poole where thousands of privately-rented properties are being insulated for free. We've also been insulating properties in Bournemouth for over-60's in Council Tax Bands A to D for free. These projects are on hold while the council decide how to spend their money over the next few days, but it's looking likely we'll have the funding to carry on.
The energy suppliers have to reduce energy usage and the resulting CO2 emissions by 10% before 2010 or they face huge fines. They're therefore clambering over each other to insulate your home. Let us EEACs point you in the direction of the most suitable grant, because it's free and we're completely impartial.:T
