Trying to buy a flat, need help

Hi everyone,

I need some help with this one as I'm a bit lost. I have found a nice two bedroom maisonette requiring refurbishment with Douglas Allen. I have viewed the property and arranged a mortgage and I have my deposit. I'm a first time buyer so I'm all ready to go and there's nothing stopping me from buying this property except the estate agent.

I have tried contacting Douglas Allen on several occasions and I'm either told that the person I require is 'off', 'in a meeting, 'out with a client'. I have explained that I would like to purchase the property at the asking price but am still told that someone will call me back. I have received no calls back and am always told the same thing. The property is still for sale on their web site and I've had several family members call and enquire about the property to which they are told the same thing.

I have also contacted their head office and that have directed me to the branch manager.... who is always unavailable whenever I call. Upon visiting the branch I am told that the person responsible is out of the office and will call me when he comes back.

I don't know what to do now as it's been going on for several weeks and their head office won't help and I don't know who else to contact. Not sure if I mentioned that the property is still available on their web site.

Thanks
Dean.

  • Try putting your offer in writing to the EA. They cannot then ignore it.

Or check who owns the property (Land Registry £4) and contact owner direct. (or if they live there, just knock on the door)

Its lined up to a "friend" Contact the owner.
  • Thanks for your replies, the property is a repossession and it's currently empty and I couldn't find anything online. I will try a land registry, as you say david29dpo I think it might be lined up for a friend as it's cheap and would have gone by now.

    Thanks

If it's a repossession the lender is interested in the best price, the best position, a quick sale. Put your offer in writing detailing this and enclosing a copy of your MIP. This is a formal situation and probably your largest purchase to date so don't trust the agent to get the finer points correct. It is illegal for an agent not to put an offer to the vendor.
