Hi i think i know the answer here and i hope dunstorth comes along and posts.
My mum and Dad were sold a life insurance policy by combined insurance of America now Ace. Sadly my dad has passed away recently and my mum found out he was insured for accidental death only and he died of natural causes.
On her policy it states accidental death but sadly they did not understand and my mum told me that is was sold to them to cover them in death in any way shape or form.
Her policy on looking states whole life so am i correct in saying it will pay out accidental or not.
I realise they should have read and understood what they were paying. I don't have a leg to stand on for misselling do i?

...as if by magic....My mum and Dad were sold a life insurance policy by combined insurance of America now Ace.
oh dear. Low cost plans typically offering non-standard coverage or restricted terms. Sold door to door by insurance agents. Whenever I come across one of these it usually results in the person being told to cancel it and replace it with something more suitable. Her policy on looking states whole life so am i correct in saying it will pay out accidental or not.
whole of life indicates the term rather than the coverage.I realise they should have read and understood what they were paying. I don't have a leg to stand on for misselling do i?
Buying a policy that pays out in certain events but not others is not grounds for complaint. A mis-selling complaint would be if they said it paid out on death and didnt point out accidental only (which by the way is so statistically unlikely to happen that many insurers or retailers will give away accidental death coverage in marketing campaigns as they will suffer hardly any claims but it apparently sells well with people).
So, the fact it doesnt cover is not grounds for complaint. If your mum feels it was misrepresented then she should complain. The issue may be if all the documentation says accidental only as documentation is King in a complaint. There are exceptions but there would need to be strong pointers to any verbal allegation being accepted as what happened. My gut, based only on cases I have seen with them before, is that the paperwork is likely to be in order even if perhaps the verbal sales presentation was not.

Sorry for your loss but does your mother really need life insurance anymore as you and any brothers and sisters will be the only beneficiary's, it wont help her at all but will cost her, unless it's used to cover her funeral costs.0 -
Hi Keith all she wants is to cover funeral costs really . Thanks for posting x0
