  • Good discussion, i always opt out of emails and anything else i can opt out for. I havent won much this month either so im going to give it a go :)
  • I always say yes to newsletter sign ups. Always been convinced it increases my chance of winning.

Im feel a bit relieved im not the only one worrying about it. I wonder if the people who win can add a post letting us know if they ticked or not. Maybe after 100 or so we can work out what the odds are and then work out for ourselves if its luck or not.

Getting emails doesn't bother me, I've had some great bargains from them over the years. Having said that, I would like to think that wih all the rules and regulations around nowadays, companies wouldn't risk discriminating against people who opt out.

I think that's a fab idea. Why not start a new thread to run for October for people to post their wins and state whether they tick yes or no to marketing? I don't supposed people will remember specifically for particular wins, but they will be able to say what they generally do. Would be so interesting to see if there is any significant difference.

I opt out of 'emails' a few still get through and I just archive them without reading, unless it looks like a potential win 'subject'

Since May, I have managed nearly 40 wins of varying value, including gig tickets, cinema tickets, to vouchers.

As mentioned above, it would be against numerous terms and fair play rules
  • I don't win as much or often as i did, but my style is to always opt out of 3rd party, and opt out of that companies own email unless its something i do actually buy or have an existing interest in, not just try to win.

I see no point in say, Rolex or Volkwagon emailing me special offers, as i'm not going to buy even at half price - but I do want to win it. But for something like Crocs shoes I'd say yes to emails, or Cadbury chocolate, bloggers newsletters as i like reading those.

  • I opt out of everything, but am still very happy with my win ratio. But you know, maybe I'll have a go at opting in and see if it makes a difference!

    Good luck everyone!
Huge respect to all those who take the time to post competitions. You're all great! :T
  • Thanks for joining in with my discussion. Looking at the comments I feel that maybe some of you will tick yes to newsletters from now on.

3rd party/or SMS messages only a few of you. (maybe less important to promoter) I happen to agree!

    Good luck

  • I sometimes go tick yes or leave the newsletter coming to me. Wasn't aware that they would know I wasn't opening them though. Will remember that in future.

Im very much of the view of if they are being good enough to give me something for free I want to give something back. After all if companies having comps didn't work by getting them more customers then a lot would stop having comps and just advertise instead.

I recently bought some Vimto as they did give me an ipad from their car bouncing game in FB. The same with Garnier, Ive got a few Garnier things recently so I have paid them back so to speak by buying a couple more of their products.
Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:
