Home insurance renewal before moving house

I currently have contents only insurance on my leasehold flat (buildings insurance is communally covered). This is due for renewal shortly - a couple of months before I will move to a freehold house that will require both buildings and contents cover.

What is the best plan of action here? I don't really want to be without contents cover for a couple of month - especially seeing as the contents will be moved during that time (currently have accidental cover). I don't want to take out a new 12 months policy to only have to change this - for a fee of course.

Can I take out some sort of short-term contents insurance for 2-3 months?

Try lloyds tsb who allow you to cancel mid term by giving 30 days notice with no penalty.

A short term policy is likely to cost you pro rata, more than a 12 month policy and a cancellation fee.

Try and find a company where you can port the policy subject to any change in policy costs. Your situation won't be unique and there will be a product out there that will suit you.
