Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any idea what is wrong with it! It will not start for around 10 minutes in the mornings. Will work for the rest of the day and it sounds like it is making a chugging noise. I know there maybe a hole in the exhaust making the noise but the revs are less than 1000rpm and it sounds like its struggling to keep the engine running?
Any Ideas?

its a 1.6 16v 06 plate0

there are a number of possible causes to this.
you have the VVT engine, wich is a nightmare, the "dephaser" cam pully engine.
so you start the engine (any rattles) that just gets louder?
if no move onto this.
does it struggle and stall once warm?
if yes, the VDO fly by wire throttle body is caked up in carbon or oil remove throttle body (carefully) and clean out with carb cleaner.
does the fan kick in when its stalls, or struggles,
if yes water temp sensor (£26.00+vat) or crank sensor.
if struggles all the time and revs are limited and the engine management light is on the pencil coil packs are to blame.
when was its last service?0 -
removed the electric from the coils and here are the results
the first, second and the fouth lost all power.
The third had no difference to the engine.
There is a strong smell of fuel as well.
Does this make any difference?0 -
it needs a service it is due next month, sorry for not replying sooner0

Dont drive it anymore and get it to the garage.
One cylinder not firing or down on compression maybe something minor
but it wont be minor by the time you get it into the garage,
It will be year your plugs/leads or coil pack have failed and instead of a £50 bill. It will be that failed and now your compression is down on that cylinder and burning oil and you have flooded the CAT in petrol.
Please bring at least £1000 when you collect the car.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

heres the cylinder order from timing side to gearbox side.
4,3,2,1 cyk 1 being the gearbox side!.
sounds like a pencil pack has gone good practice to change all four with the new valeo (greentop ones) or lucas ones also the plugs at the same time.
get a good OIL the dephaser pully is oil fed and cheap oil do more harm than good to them on your service.
the excess fuel will be burned off once the new couil is inserted.
forgotmyname these engine dont have HT leads!. they are coil packs on the plugs.0 -
ahh right so it is coil 2 that is not working properly is it? sorry kinda newbe. so if i change the 4 of them would it be better than just the one? Was going to get some castrol gtx. would i need to change the spark plugs as well or not?0
