hi could anyone recommend a motherboard, i bought an amd fx6100 recently but am having trouble finding a motherboard.
ideally i'd like it to have an ide connector for old hdds and a firewire header as my case has a firewire port at the front, maybe more than 1 pci slot and to have graphics included as the only graphics card i have is an agp card
also i don't have an am3 chip just this am3+ bulldozer and am worried as i see some people seem to say some boards need to be updated with an am3 chip first.
any help / recommendations very gratefully received! it would be ideal i could meet this spec for less than £60

you'll be lucky to find a motherboard for that CPU with IDE connections, they are ancient... do you need the firewire connector? just because the case has it you don't have to connect it.
If you really need IDE you can get a PCI card with connectors0 -
thanks tony - it would be handy to have both as i still have ide drives with a lot of my stuff on and i do use firewire a lot. i have a pci ide card but would quite like to use this case i've picked up with a front firewire connector that would require what i think is called a firewire or 1394 header on the mobo.
i'll have a look at the mobo you sent. i've seen some gigabyte ones that have both but they are (relatively) pricey.0 -

Thats the board above with more info.
Appears to have neither IDE or Firewire.
Infact i don't think there are any AM3+ boards with IDE, you would be looking at an IDE add in card such as
http://www.amazon.co.uk/NEWLink-Port-IDE-PCI-Card/dp/B000BNDIVY
But you would better off, finding out if your current mobo supports SATA, buy yourself a SATA drive and move all your data from your IDE drives to the SATA ones, before buying a standard AM3+ motherboard.0 -
How about an add-in PCI Card (Some new MoBo's still PCI Slots) or a SATA to IDE Converter? Will probably save the hassle of finding a board with both IDE and Firewire. (Which is unlikely). You stand a much better change of getting one with just Firewire and then using a converter.
You can also get ones that convert to/from Firewire or USB2.0/3 etc (Don't try with USB1.1 @ 12MB/s that would take forever to do anything!)0 -
thanks guys for all your feedback . some of the m5a78l asus boards have ide and *i think* are am3+ so i may go with that. there are a couple of gigabyte boards but i don't think they are in current production with both and also the asus m5a88 v evo seems to have the lot but is fairly pricy so i may go with the asus as it has loads of pci slots and get a card or two.0
