Another person who bought a diesel "for the economy.."

Try starting the engine with the clutch fully depressed - and see whether it still makes that noise.
Yes. Short journeys slowly kill diesel engines, dual mass flywheels, clutches and particulate filters. And fuel economy goes out the window.
It's very intermitant and does not make the noise wqith the clutch held down when it is playing up. What does this mean?0 -
I looked at a 1.8sri model yesterday..exactly the same as mine apart from its petrol. The garage i think are prepared to do a swap should i?

Most likely the DMF is worn out.
Once it starts vibrating (car stationary, and vibrations increase with engine speed) it is definitely time to replace it."Retail is for suckers"

If you only ever do short journeys. Yes.
It's feel quite under powered compared to the Diesel. The 1.8 is 127BHP.0
