Loft insulation scam? Confused!

This week we have had 3 different loft insulation companies turn up to install insulation. They've been booked in a name of a person that's never lived here and no-one on the road knows of the name.
Each company has said they've been instructed by a surveyor who has apparently come to the house and measured up and apparently got a signed contract.
Firstly, could this be a scam aimed at us?
Secondly, could this be a surveyor scamming the companies for commission?
Thirdly, could this reflect badly on us in any way - credit report or anything?
Felt really sorry for the guys today, they'd driven an hour to get here and were asked specifically to work on a Saturday as it was the only day the 'client' could do.

This is a strange one.
Did you get the details of who the supposed surveyor was?
If not, I would suggest ringing one of the companies who showed up to do the work for further information.
No credit reports are done for any work of this type so there should be no reflection on you at all.
Could someone be doing it just to wind you up?0 -
We did wonder, but can't think of anyone that would do this sort of thing, and surely they'd be putting it I our name!0

Could be someone who's got something against the insulation companies, might not be aimed at you at all (maybe just used a random address) Could be a rival company, seems a bit odd though.0

So, in 3 separate visits, you've never asked to see these signed contracts......?0

I had a letter from the Council offering an assessment for a grant for loft insulation. A Council "surveyor" looked at my roof and then assessed that I was only entitled to a 90% discount, because of my income. As I was looking to get my loft insulated anyway I thought this sounded pretty good. anyway within a week I had received quotes from 5 different firms to do my loft. With my 90% discount it would cost me £129. I said yes and booked them for a monday, when a van full of Neds arrived with a foreman, and this swearing, loutish mob proceeding to bring in bales of insultation and chucked it into my loft. In took them about 15 minutes, by the time I worked out that they had finished they were back in the van and gone. My insulation is about 4 foot thick and overlapped the hatch area, I have 4 up-touched bales which obviously in their rush they did not have time to spread out and they buried my fake Christmas Tree, which was the only item i had left in the loft. They did not even remove the paper from the bales. And the insultation was escaping from the loft hatch.
the bottom line though is that with a bit of my own time spent tidying up it was not too bad.
The 90% discount a bit suspect, given how cheap insultation is, I could have bought the materials myself for this, so no doubt the discount went on the lout labourers.0 -
Insulation is only cheap to buy currently because virtually all of it has big subsidies, mostly from various energy companies. The 90% discount a bit suspect, given how cheap insultation is, I could have bought the materials myself for this, so no doubt the discount went on the lout labourers.
The insulation which you get from installers costs more, however they claim the subsidy separately.
They are not supposed to buy or use the already subsidised insulation, otherwise they get the subsidy twice.0 -

this will not reflect on you, it is simply a dodgy surveyor handing in a deal to 3 different companys to do the job, he will move from company to company, his card will be marked . the insulation is free but only untill 12 th dec 2012 when cert funding stops, grab it now.0 -
