EDF keep chasing me for nothing

I left EDF energy over a year ago because I was moving house (and they have naff customer service).

A few months later they send me a final bill of a whopping £850, I questioned it because it seemed way too much. I told them that I couldn't pay immediately and if they could give me 2 weeks because I was selling a car and that I could perhaps pay it then, they agreed.

Two weeks later it was a debt collection company calling instead but this meant I got a discount and paid about £600. All of this is over 6 months ago.

A few days ago I now got a letter from EDF saying that I owed them £400. I called them up to tell them that this is an error and the chap I spoke to seemed polite and intelligent and would sort it out. I said if there was a problem to call me back. Nothing.

Today I now get a letter from a debt collection saying this is my FINAL NOTICE to pay a £147 debt that I incurred with EDF which is total nonsense.

I am now on the phone to EDF to try and get this solved again but what if this continues? Is there any sort of official complaint I can make? I was thinking of calling trading standards but not sure where that will get me.

Many thanks,

Dan

What was the outcome following the phone call you made?

It seems odd that EDF instructed a debt collector to call when they already had made an agreement with you as to how the debt was to be paid (and at that time you had not been in breach of such agreement)
  • Hi there, I'm going through the exact same thing... EDF are a joke. You can make a complaint by e-mail/letter/phone. Letter or e-mail would be better so you have a written record and proof of sending. If you google "EDF complaint" and click on the top on that reads "Making a complaint - EDF Energy" it will take you to the complaint procedure. If they don't sort it out you can take it further.

Do you still have proof of payment for your last bill? any letters?

Make a complaint via their written procedure. Then after 8 weeks you can refer it to the ombudsman.

Its a bit vague. You need to get breakdowns on these values as it could easily be the case that they are rebilling you...and it could be wrong!

Not quite the same according to your other thread, is it?

You appear to have been billed for the the period 04/08/11-05/03/12, but you appear to be in dispute over that bill, rather than having made an arrangement to pay it.
No mention either of a debt collector having called.
  • Pooch, the current problem I'm having with them is different (but similar) but if you look at the bottom of my thread at point 4 of the complaint you will see they were previously sending me gas/electric bills for a meter/account I didn't have. They sent 2 debt collectors round and it took months to fix.
