Passed my MOT today but.....

My Ford Focus passed the MOT today but there were a couple of advisory note.

Both nearside and offside rear tie bar rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement [2.4.G.2]. Was told this will probably not be an issue for another 6 months, but cost of getting them replaced will in a few hundred pounds. My question is roughly how many hundred (£300- £900 falls in the "few hundred" category)

The second note is no reverse light, it might be the bulbs or it might be the switch, what are kind of cost am I looking at in each scenario?

Many thanks in advance [very nervous:(]

They're having a laugh if they think that it is £300. I would want change out of £100. There's a few bushes it could be but the cheapest ones, D shaped ones, are a couple of quid each and no more than half an hours labour to fit a side even if its a pig to undo the bolt holding it in. I'd leave them until you hear a knocking sound when you go over bumps. The condition they're in they could pass MOTs for a few years yet. The advisory merely means the surface has gone dry and has some cracking on but the bush is still doing its job so it is purely cosmetic at the moment.

Reverse light - crack out the manual and change it yourself - a couple of quid for a bulb. You may even find your local motorist shop will do it for you if you ask nicely. If its the switch in the gearbox, £50-£75 depending on labour.
  • If it is the reverse switch, these are usually sticking out of the side of the gearbox - a spanner, new switch and half an hour will usually fix it. :)

Reversing light isn't a testable item so it's not a major problem.

for the past 5 years my car has passed its MOT with advisories - different ones each time and we haven't done anything between tests...

I presume it was a different test station each time.

Why? Do they remember all the advisories they have given in the last 12 months? Or do you think they print off a crib sheet before performing the MOT?

AFIAK the computer does not ping up with advisories when the tester logs on when performing a new test after the 12months is up..
with the hundreds of tests a tester does a week he/she wont remember what advisories they gave you 12 months later
reverse switch is easy 30 mins and a £10er for a switch
the bushes should be less than £100 fitted

You presume wrong. Small, local, family run garage. They test both of our cars and are just great.
