Nationwide credit card marketing letter!

in Credit cards
Got a letter from Nationwide this morning saying they had tried to contact me about my credit card account. Worried, I rang them. It took 2 calls and 10 minutes to be told that they wanted to offer me a balance transfer deal. I was.. errr... annnoyed. Had been genuinely concerned. Didn't think I was signed up to marketing but it may because I signed up to Savings Watch?? Worked for finding out about one new savings account, but failed to let me know there was a better ISA rate than the bonus-ending offer they wrote to me about. Anyway, if you get a general letter to call them about your credit card account, chances are they are wasting your time. Posting this because I had 15 minutes of worry that there was a serious problem with my credit card..... Not saying don't ring them back, but don't worry about it til you have spoken to them...

I had something like this a while ago, but for my current account.
Very stupid behaviour IMHO.0 -
Had you signed up for Savings Watch? I think some of the small print for it basically "turned on" the "you can send me marketing info" switch...0

I got one of these letters today, dated 2 weeks ago. I am certain they did not try to contact me, as I receive an email when anyone rings the number that I gave them, and I got no email. I am already on a BT deal until 2014, so I'm not sure what else they could offer me.0

Yes you are right. The reason I did not sign up for Savings Watch is because I did not want any marketing info.
I would have been happy to have savings watch on its own but NEVER with all the other stuff that they will contact you with.
ALWAYS read the small print.0 -
Yes. I agree. I did think I would get some marketing stuff, but I selected email - and the tone of the letter suggested there was a problem, so I was bound to ring! Hopefully they won't again as I ... er...suggested they didn't ring or write again! Have also lodged a complaint. Watch this space!0
