New virgin media customer - any offers?

Basically, I've decided to ditch sky and move to Virgin media as the total price for tv, broadband, V+ and the phone-line will be a lot cheaper then my current cost for Sky+, BT line + Orange broadband max.

In true moneysaving fashion, and as I noticed a few discussions on here regarding special offers for existing customers, I thought I'd ask on here first before signing up to find out 1. Can new customers get any of these brilliant £xx.xx for life bundles that existing customers are being offered, and 2. Can I wangle any extra bonus' or discounts by going via. a cashback website or by being reffered by a friend whoi is an existing Virgin media customer??

Incase anyone else is thinking of joining Virgin, I've tried Quidco and Rpoints but neither offer a referral bonus, and the best deal I could find was by taking the '3 for £30' bundle from the virgin website you get a 'first month free' sign-up bonus (save £30) plus a £10 discount off your first bill for ordering online so you'd just pay £15 for installation. When I phoned up earlier the guy offered to waive the £25 installation charge but you wouldn't get the first month free offer as this is online only.

Thanks in advance, and I hope what I've researched so far will help someone... ;)

Unless, of course, you can wangle free anyime calls. Then they are cheap! I think it's worth ringing to see if you can get a better deal anyway!

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

0845 and 0870 a lot higher than BT, the 0844 numbers are too complicated for me to plough through every different number range and fees.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Posted this in another thread, but now think I posted it in the wrong place, and here might be more appropriate! :-)

We have become increasingly disillusioned with Sky over the past year. Our equipment constantly develops faults, their customer service is consistently shocking, and they cost the earth. We already have phone and broadband with VirginMedia and were on the point of changing when the public announcement came about Virgin losing the basic channels. As 24 devotees, this was a bit of a deal-breaker.

However, our Sky+ box packed up on Friday, so we have lost all the back episodes of 24 that we have yet to watch, which means that Sky has now lost its competitive advantage. I got on the blower to Virgin today, who told me (unofficially) that Virgin will have the rights to broadcast 24, Lost etc as from May. Has anyone else heard this?

Virgin also has the advantage that, as a cable service, it is less prone to weather-related reception issues, and I *think* (although I'd need to get this confirmed) they say that callouts to fix equipment are free. We currently pay Sky+ insurance.

Given that they have offered a very competitive package price and free installation, it seems like a good move to make. But I first wanted to check to see if anyone else has reached the same conclusion - or alternatively, whether there is a horrendous flaw in my logic that I haven't spotted.

    Any thoughts/advice?

    Debt-free and Proud!
my dad was telewest tv & phone for years @ £30 then broadband got put in and rocketed to £45 before calls, with new packages I got L TV & M B/B @ 2 for £20 and went back with BT & with the landline " Heinz " program its never over £25 in total for both and was always £50 + per month so we halved his Telewest costs as a minimum

£28 to T-mobile for 200mins ends in 2 months ( usually £40+ pm ) and he'll be going on the 3 £15 for 500 mins deal ( virginmobile 300/300 @ £10pm no good as he sends like 10 texts a month and his usage is always 300+ mins )

Landline stay BT, the rest move to Virgin ( including mobile ) ive got him from £100 a month down to £40 - just aswell he retired recently !!! lol
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • I guess you should go for 2 for £20
Take TV + BB from them
And for phone line go for Vonage it costs 5.99 per month and then 7.99 per month
    one off £24 installation fee

For Virgin media As your friend to recommend you or I can recommend you. I get money and can offer fair share to you out of it..
Vonage offers 24x7 free call to UK landline + any vonage phone accross the world. I can refer you for Vonage as well (then go through Quidco ) and you will get Quidco and perhaps RAF as well.
Vonage quality is as par with Virgin phone and you will save huge money in Vonage phones.
    Hope it helps

Depends on how much you use the phone, Vonage you pay for inclusive calls each and every month, even when you don't use the phone.

You could buy a PAP2 ATA off eBay attach it to your router, and then pay nothing per month, just pay for the actual calls you make, as it's VoIP all the services such as Call Waiting, Caller Display, 3-Way Calling, Call transfer etc are free as it's part of VoIP.

https://www.VoIP.co.uk have the pay £20 for the year and evening and weekend calls are included (each call up to 60 mins, then per minute afterwards) and daytime calls are 2 pence for up to 60 mins, per minute after 60 mins.

Vonage are quite dear compared to what is out there and they have various fees to join, to leave etc etc.

I use VoIPStunt and have a phone number pointed to the service, I've been with the almost 2 years and only ever paid €6 and have got my calls free. granted this was as I joined at the right time to get many many months free and then used free mobile phone credit to top the acount up with, so I now have over 9 months left of free calling (now 300 mins per week to many countries, over 300 mins pay the per min rate).

VoIPDiscount offer for €10+19% VAT 120 days of free calling, at 300 mins per week, and unlike Vonage that €10 isn't lost on inclusive calls, you can spend that on calls outside your free minutes each week, or after your 120 free days. They no longer issue an incoming number, but I know a way of getting a local area of your choice number for free and point it at this service.

Vonage is OK if you make loads of calls each and every day and are aware of the extra charges.

I think for most, either a Betamax service like VoIPDiscount or the VoIP.co.uk is the better option, as there is more scope to save money compared to Vonage.

I've been looking at Virgin for TV as am in rented house so can't put up a dish (wouldn't want Sky anyway). We have a freeview box but only get BBC channels through it!

Am hoping to get just the TV package but so far it looks as though would need to get the phone too. As calls look to be expensive, does anyone know whether I can use my 18185 prefix? Don't want to shoot myself in the foot financially and would rather live with just BBC channels but be able to chat at will on the phone!

    Thanks for any advice!
