Northerners & Southerners Different Taste in Home Furnishings

I've been looking through the "The "have a look at this!" thread II" and what's been very noticeable to me is how, with exception of course, northerners and southerners seem to have very different tastes in furnishing their homes.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed it, but it does seem that many of the properties in the north tend to be decorated in a much more frilly way, with lots of twee frills, fringes, patterns, ornaments etc.....quite 70s in some ways....whilst the properties down south seem to be decorated in a much more understated fashion.
That doesn't apply to each and every property, of course, and I'm sure you can find understated up north, and fussy down south, but as a rule of thumb it does seem that northerners go for the frilly look with lots of patterns while southerners go for the more understated look.
So what do northerners and southerners prefer, I wonder?
Frilly or understated?

Southerner - prefer minimalist but with natural materials such as wood and stone. Hate ornaments, photos, metallic things, knicknacks and patterned stuff. Give me neutral any day."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Southerner who lives up north - depends on the type of person that you visit. Some are frilly north and south, most are into natural no frills modern north and south.
Never seen a doily, or a crocheted seat cover, fancy toilet roll cover, or an anti-macassar since moving up here. But then again I'm now an adult and if I did see them, it would be with a certain nod to the 70s in an ironic fashion. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I'm from the Midlands
hate 'fuss' - little tables serving no other purpose other than to stand an ornament on, china/glass cabinets, chintz, pelmets, frills.
Don't like seeing photographs of people staring at me from every direction.
Hate most ornaments but like the occasional quirky one or one of natural materials like minerals or fossils.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Plain, but Im a northener who spent ten years in the south x

Sounds like tosh to me. The "Have a Look at this" thread is specifically to point out the strange and hideous so not really a good representation of North vs South0

Yes, I've noticed this too. I'm a Southerner.
I prefer plain and uncluttered. I have never had "twigs" - however, these seem to have been superseded by clutter signs such as "live laugh love", "the bathroom" etc. On balance, I think they are worse than twigs.0 -
Of course it differs - the South has a softer climate so the horrible stark hotel look is reasonable. It also reflects the Southern personality, of course:cool:
Up North, you probably need 'softer' and more comfortable surroundings.
I couldn't answer the poll because I don't like fussy but I detest cold 'hotel' decor. As a previous poster pointed out, this thread is for the out of the ordinary, but also they are houses for sale and I imagine that quite a lot of the sparse ones have hidden clutter stuffed into attics and cupboards:)"If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you. "
