Advice on switching student accounts for existing students with an overdraft

I'm a 5th year medical student in Glasgow. I am entering my 6th and final year in September. I have banked with RBS for the last 11 years and I currently have a student Royalities account. I have the current max interest free overdraft of £2000 and am using approximately £1800 of it. My flatmate asked for her limit (same cirumstances as me) to be put up to their advertised maximum of £2500 and was told that this maximum was only availble to new students. I am have been wondering if it is worth me swapping to HBOS? Will they accept me with my current overdraft (approx -£1800) and give me an increased max overdraft limit? Or should I stick with RBS and ask them to put up my limit. I've never been over my O/D limit, never had a bank charge, I have one RBS credit card which I pay off in full each month and also, unfortunately, have approx £20000 of student loans. I was also really good at paying off my overdraft each year until last year, i.e. I worked holidays so my account was in credit for the start of each university year.
Some advice please? I don't really want to have student two accounts on the go, too much hassle transferring money but would like to know if I can get a bigger overdraft just to increase the amount of extra cash I have available in case.
Thanks
