Improving wifi signal for smart tv

A wireless homeplug set up would remove the need to have an extra wire to the TV?
Ahh, Devolo's! These are what I replaced in my partners parents with the TL-WA801DN after they kept losing the connection between each other, meaning you had unplug/replug again and they were less than a year old! had them replaced and same issue again. I suspect as it was an old house the wiring was an issue. Again they are TP-Link kit, But for less than half the price you can have the same speed for £29.99 using the TL-PA211KIT (200MB/s), £37.49 for the TL-PA411KIT (500MB/s) and finally for £49.98 the TL-PA511KIT (1GB/s / 1000MB/s)
Obviously these speeds are to be taken with a pinch of salt. I wouldn't necessary recommend the use of PowerLine adapters anyway as they can be intercepted fair more easily than with wireless! You just need to be close enough and know somebody is using one to be able to potentially eves drop. I appreciate though, this is only theoritcally possible and usually only an issue in blocks of flats.
That being said, I have only ever seen this happen once after agreeing with somebody to test the theory and it was in an apartment block! All we found the user doing was their 14 year old son (sucked to be him after I can tell you, no pun intented) looking at some rather rude websites!

Thanks Nucleur for advice and links. The only thing that is slightly worrying me is the reviews for the TP-Link range extender all say the instructions were useless and as I haven't got a clue about these things will I be able to set it up properly? Otherwise it seems the best choice.0

You're Welcome and you're right, the instructions aren't great. But in actuality, I didn't read them as I've setup more Wireless Networks than I've had hot dinners lol!
I don't know if this is allowed, But I can make a YouTube video and send you the link if you like? It's fairly straight forward to setup to be honest. But then like I said, I've done it too many times0 -
The powerline adaptors are the way to go, that way you get a signal for sure with no problems from cordless phones, microwaves, dodgy light fittings (tubes can give off interference) or anything else. Buy at least a pair that are rated 200mb or higher -85mb are obsolete. They are dead simple to set up, and you can ones that have a plug socket built in so that you dont use up precious socket space. My Mind wanders, if found please return.0

That would be brilliant, thank you.0 -
I would normally recommend putting up with it and running a network cable via powerline.
I installed 200mb powerlines between the router and the TV. HD video is brilliant, here my setup.
Fibre Optic Modem -> 300mbps wireless N router
Router -> Cable to powerline adapter
-> Cable to laptop (when used next to it)
-> Cable to server
Second powerline adapter by TV in living room -> Switch
Switch cable connections to -> TV, Sky, Blu-Ray and Xbox.
Wireless is used for tablet, two phones and the laptop when moving about.
This makes sure I have a cable connection from the TV etc to the router running at a speed faster than the broadband. Wireless can suffer slowdowns for many reasons, which can make the different getting HD video on the TV EVEN WHEN you have fibre optic broadband.
My powerline adapters have encrytion on them, which I recommend using.0 -
Take a look at this Netgear wifi range extender which seems to get good reviews
