DWP Issues

Just looking for advice please without anyone being judgemental.

I am on JSA and looking hard for work, but with certain visions as to where I wish to go forward.

Did some ad-hoc work (cash in hand) between May & Aug 2011...about 10 hours and received £70 CASH. No payslips just cash in hand.

Made the "mistake" of declaring it to DWP. They stopped my JSA as I had no payslips. Since re-instated. Told them this was work experience maybe leading to a position. I was then offered a full time position due to my hard work, attitude etc...

However DWP decided to grill my new potential employer as to why they paid me cash, did not give payslips and basically wanted to know the ins and outs of their business.

Due to this intrusion by DWP my offer of employment was withdrawn. This I logged with my Key Worker at Work Programme and has been placed on record.

Today...I have received a letter from DWP asking me for payslips for this work (over a year ago) together with dates (over a year ago, can't remember exact dates) otherwise I could be sanctioned.

£70 over 3 months. Whats the big deal, I didn't hide it.

It makes me think that it doesn't pay to be honest.

Being paid cash in hand isn't being honest.

The op declared the money... He or she was being honest.

It's the employers job surely to organize pay slip and all the correct stuff like ni etc... Not the op ..no need to be so mean to them.

Money saving is about being nice and supportive to others not accusing those who come for help of dishonesty.

Op sorry for your trouble. Can you speak to your case worker who orginally gave you the sanction, as it doesn't seem right sanctioning someone for the same incident twice.

I declared it though and didn't dis-honestly keep it quiet.
  • No wonder people don't declare stuff if this is the amount of fuss the DWP make over £70 earned over 2 months. Yeah, think you were right in calling it a mistake to declare! You did the 'right' thing and lost a potential job over it. Well done DWP!

  • personally i would have said it was unpaid valuntary work to lead to a paid position. i would personally appeal the sanction on the basis that the job was offered, you were truethfull in your claim and actions and now that the DWP have made an issue youv lost a job as its been withdrawn and is that a good enough sanction for them?

Absolutely. Big mistake, just shows honesty doesn't pay. Lesson learned.

Personally I should have said naff all, lesson learned though ie the morals instilled by my parents when I was a child don't apply in modern society.

he declared the earnings over a year ago, yet the DWP are still using resources for what...I bet it would cost the same to chase those avoiding millions in taxes.
