midwife appointments - is this normal?

Hello Ali...Hi,
Don't know if some of you remember my last post, but to cut a long story short I found out I was pregnant nearly 3 weeks ago. I went to see my GP, who confirmed it and asked me to make an appointment for a booking in appointment with the midwife on my way out. She also asked for a dating scan at the same time as I have an irregular cycle. (at the time she estimated that I was 7 weeks pg)
I asked at the main desk for a midwife appointment, only to be told that there weren't any at all for the next 5 weeks! I was under the impression that I needed to be seen by around 10 weeks?
Anyway, I was told that one of the midwives would call me to make an appointment, but no one has yet. I know who my midwife will be, but I have left messages, including notification of when I am on holiday to avoid clashes, and heard nothing in the last 3 weeks. My dating scan is on 19th April, and I am having a nuchal transparency scan on the same afternoon. , so will be about 12 weeks at that point.
Is this normal - given that I am now 10 weeks pg, and really should have seen a mw by now - I don't even have an appointment yet?
bit worried (but it is my olympic sport of choice - worrying, that is)
Ali
So long as your Nuchal Translucency scan & blood test are done at precisely the right time, you need not worry about anything! :-)
Incidentally, you could consider having an independent midwife.
The level of care you will receive & the rapport you will build are WELL worth every single penny!!! :-)

Been busy at work for a while, but I had my dating scan last Thursday, and my dates were totally out! I'm actually 9 weeks today, which means I'm about 4 weeks behind where i thought I was. Had to cancel the nuchal scan, as I wasn't far enough along.
My first MW appointment is tomorrow morning! The nuchal scan unit worked out when I should attend for that based on the due date from the scan, so that should be fine as well.
Getting very excited now, although from the 9 week scan photo it looks like a peanut at the moment.... I have been told it will look very different on 16th May when I have the nuchal scan, as they grow very quickly at this age.
Have also investigated the NCT ante natal classes, as apparently they are very popular round here.
Am taking vitamins and eating lots of veg / drinking lots of water.
Only problem is stress at work, which is horrible at the moment, really busy as I work in a skills shortage industry. Work doesn't stop coming, and the company I work for is running after all sorts of new contracts, but we can't recruit the staff to do it. As a result, I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks tomorrow afternoon, and I am sure I will spend the whole holiday stressing about what I haven't done. Some of it is not the kind of stuff that can wait either, as the jobs are already on site (I'm a structural engineer) and no site is going to sit around for 2 weeks while I get back! Now I'm running around making notes for people, and am going to have to leave my work mobile on for Contractor's to be able to contact me while on holiday. I just feel a bit aggrieved at this, I guess some of you may agree with me. I need this holiday, as I havent' had one for about a year, and was sitting my professional exams before Christmas - 4 months solid revision. Can feel the red mist rising as I type...
Not good for the baby, I don't think.
Anyway, must do some work. No matter that I was on site at 7.20 this morning looking at a wall that needs to be knocked out, and have about another 2 hours to do tonight before I go home. I'm hungry, which is making the nausea worse, no food here or opportunity to get any so by the time I drive home, I'll be retching all the way from hunger.
Cross at the moment, sorry for ranting.

Have you been on the Pregnancy Club thread? Do join us if you haven't already (my memory's seriously dodgy what with this baby nabbing all my Omega 3!), you'll get loads of support.
At your stage of pregnancy I was majorly stressed too and started reading books about all the bad things it was doing to my baby. I spent weeks on end either seething/crying/shouting or fretting. Then I realised a lot of it was hormones making me all wobbly and bad at dealing with stuff. It passes and then you can be all serene (ish!) and chilled about stuff. Try not to fizz up too much, I promise you'll feel calmer with time.
