New Central Heating - Student let

Hi all
I have just bought a 3 bed mid terrace built in 1968, in process of converting lounge and making a 4th bedroom, so 4 bedroom is a better description. It has a very old warm air heating system. I intend to replace this with central heating. A plumber quoted £3k using a combi Glow-worm 24kw boiler. I'm a bit old school and quite like normal/heat-only boilers. Also it looks like a cheap boiler. Does anyone care to comment on the suitability, price etc.

Thanks

Personally I hate Glow Worm boilers.

For landlord property's I always fit the Potterton Gold HE, If there is a bath then you will need a 28Kw combi.

£3000 is very cheap for a full heating system install.
  • +1 on the above
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Thanks southcoastrgi and gas4you. Looks like you both think combi's are ok. I will ask the plumber to quote this boiler instead.
    I appreciate you responding
  • For a rented property I would always advise a system boiler and a hot water cylinder. That means you can have an immersion heater as backup. Tenants will put up with no heating for a few days if the boiler breaks (you can give them a couple of fan heaters) but they will want hot water fixing fast, which means paying emergency call outs.

If you have two shower rooms, one off combi, and one with electric shower, that would be an alternative.

However I have a Glow Worm Flexicom 24cx and very happy with it, filling a bath in the depths of winter is a bit sluggish but not intolerably so.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Thanks OwainMS. They are both very good points. I hadn't considered an electrical shower as a hot water backup.
