Selling car and not replacing - NCB query

I am looking to sell my car and not replace it. The cost of an annual bus pass is far cheaper than running my car. I have built up 3 years NCB. Does anyone know if I can still use this NCB in the future after, say 3 years of not having a car?

At present most insurers accept ncd up to 2 years old.
You need to look hard to find any that take it 3 tears old (though currently co-op do)0
