Southend Airport

I'm due to fly from Southend - Belfast in a few weeks.

Has anyone flown from Southend since it has had it's facelift?

Any helpful hints or tips?

Thanks in advance

I live very close to Southend Airport and it's small but perfectly formed. Get off the train and the check in desk is about 25 yards from the platform. My son flew home from Amsterdam last weekend and he went from plane door to front door in 20 mins.

If you really must, there's a McDonalds just off site but there always used to be a little caff in the old terminal that did a blinding bacon sarnie.

Just for the record, I'm not orange and I don't own a pair of white stiletto shoes.

A friend used it during the summer and wishes all airports we like it! No queues, few passengers, luggage waiting before they reached the baggage hall, station handy.
  • Hi Faith 177,

I recently used Southend Airport and was very impressed.
We got the Tube from London Bridge to Stratford, then changed to the train to Southend.
You come out of the station and the airport is across the road , straight in front of you.

The Terminal is very small, we flew with hand luggage only and checked in on line.
Security was very efficient and pleasant, then you go down to Departure Lounge.
There were only three gates and with three flights going out within 30 minutes it did get a bit crowded.

There is a largish shop and a coffee shop.
We walked from the gate out to the planes, but it was not very far.
Everything was very shiney and new.

We used to use Stansted, but this was much less crowded and much more pleasant.
  • Forgot to add, there is no Boots,

Just a largish typical airport shop, selling papers, books , sweets, cosmetics etc.

There are two coffee shops, one as you come into the terminal , and another in Departures.
Sorry, cant remember the name of the chain,:p but we had a coffee and it was good. They have sandwiches, wraps, muffins etc .
