Tricky!! - Unusual RTW flight Iteniery

A tricky one here for the ones in the know(about flights :-D)

Planning on going round the world travelling and working from this June for at least a year, and most likely 18months. Def going to the US(LA to be exact) for 3-4months first, then on to New Zealand/Oz to work travel for some time. Now i could get a RTW ticket for the LA-Oz/NZ-Asia route no problem for £1,200ish, however this is not what i want.

If it is affordable(obviosuly it will cost more) what i would like to do is to return to the States in the following September from Oz(want to spend a year in Oz working, including travelling time in Asia, Nz). So whats i would like to do is London(June07)-LA-Oz(Sept07)-Asia, for a month travelling at some point during my year their-LA(Sept08)-London(December08)

I am flexibile about where in Asia i visit, and with dates a little in 2008, but my question to all you is what would be the most affordable way to buy flight tickets such as this?????????????????????

Thanks for any help here

Firstly, you can't buy tickets more than a year ahead of your planned date of travel. In addition, ticket validity does not exceed 12 months.

So, you can only purchase some of the tickets.

My guess is the only way you can do it is to buy two one way multi stop tickets. One from the UK and the other whilst in Australia.

You're probably looking at an Air New Zealand one-way ticket from Heathrow-Los Angeles-NZ-Oz... Get a return flight to Asia during your time in Oz and then buy a one-way flight back to the UK, again with Air NZ. Might as well throw in one of their free South Pacific stopovers while you're at it.

What I think could end up being the best option....

A cheapo RTW that takes you as far as Asia. You'll have to discard the rest. For about £1000 depending on dates - BA / Qantas do one that should do the biz.

If you use that ticket to finish in Hong Kong. Oasis will hopefully by then have started Hong Kong - Oakland (San Fran) flights, so you'll pick that up for about £130 (hopefully!). Then a cheapo one way back to the UK (£200?).

I would strongly urge you to speak to one of the talented bunch at Global Village or Travel Nation. A lot of consultants like to get their teeth into complicated itineraries and will know the latest options / prices / rulings!

It seems that by the time he/she will be leaving OZ, the one year validity of the ticket will be over.

I think my idea is the best, in terms of visas etc.

    Oh yeh! I second Donnie.

But be sure you're not breaching any onwards flights regulations (i.e. if you don't have an onward ticket immigration can get shirty!).

Thanks for your help...its a tricky one. Doesd everyone agree that two one way multi stop tickets(one to Oz, one back) is the best way. This does sound good, how much would i be looking for and can the multistops be for 3months(going to the US in June). More advice and even rough quotes would be much appreciated.

Also, just out of curiosity...where is the cheapest play to but a typical RTW ticket, STA gave me a quote of £1200 leaving London in June

    ????????????????????????????????????

    Thanks again!!!

An alternative would be to take a cheap flight to the US and then try to hook up with a courier or cheap flight to Sydney from the USA.
A bit of research would be required on your part. :)

Im still unsure and planning to book in the next two weeks(also, does it make a difference how short notice you book). I assume it wouldnt, but when you depart determines the cost. IOts just theirs a slight chance i may not be booking for a couple more weeks....up to 3weeks before i leave. Also, who is the cheapest for RTW tickets. STA gave me a quote of £1200all in leaving beforeJune 15th...is their a price comparison site for RTW tickets or do i just call up all the different brokers and tell them the price i got?? Also....still unsure(will know in the next week or two) but would this be the cheapest way to book for me if i wish to stay longer than a year! : single to Oz via LA(3month stopover), single back from OZ via LA(another 3month stopover) ans just see asia whist im in Oz for mt year+

    ??????????????

...if so, wheres the cheapest places to but tickets singles to Oz(with 3month stopovers in the states)
